Fatty Liver
Fatty liver is referred to as a state of disorder in which fat accumulates in cells of the liver.
It is commonly associated with excessive alcohol consumption (alcoholic fatty liver disease) AFLD or NAFLD non-alcoholic factors such as obesity, high cholesterol, diabetes, or metabolic syndrome (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease).
The symptoms of fatty liver can vary and may not be noticeable in the early stages.
Elevated liver enzymes: Blood tests may reveal elevated levels of liver enzymes, indicating liver damage.
It’s important to note that fatty liver can progress to more severe conditions, such as non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) or cirrhosis, which can have more serious symptoms and complications.
If you suspect you may have fatty liver or are experiencing any concerning symptoms, it is recommended to consult a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and guidance.

- The causes of fatty liver can be categorized into two main types:
- Alcoholic fatty liver disease and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
1. Alcoholic fatty liver disease:
- This type of fatty liver is primarily caused by excessive alcohol consumption.
- When alcohol is consumed, the liver prioritizes metabolizing alcohol over breaking down fats, leading to the accumulation of fat in liver cells.
2. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD):
- This type of fatty liver is not related to alcohol consumption and is commonly associated with factors such as obesity, high cholesterol, diabetes, or metabolic syndrome.
- The exact cause of NAFLD is not fully understood, but it is believed to be influenced by a combination of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors.
- It’s important to note that both alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease can lead to more severe conditions if left untreated.
- If you suspect you may have fatty liver or are experiencing any concerning symptoms, it is recommended to consult a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and guidance.
