Low Sperm Count
Low sperm count, medically known as oligospermia, is a common fertility issue affecting many men worldwide.
It refers to a condition where a man has fewer than 15 million sperm per milliliter of semen.
Having a low sperm count decreases the odds that one of a man’s sperm will fertilize his partner’s egg, resulting in pregnancy.

Medical Causes
1. Varicocele: This is a swelling of the veins that drain the testicle, and it’s the most common reversible cause of male infertility.
2. Infections: Some infections can interfere with sperm production or sperm health, or can cause scarring that blocks the passage of sperm.
3. Ejaculation Problems: Conditions such as diabetes, spinal injuries, medications, and surgery of the bladder, prostate, or urethra can lead to retrograde ejaculation.
4. Hormonal Imbalances: The hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, and adrenal glands are all crucial in producing hormones necessary for sperm production. Any imbalances in these hormones can affect sperm count.
Lifestyle Factors
1. Drug Use: Anabolic steroids, cocaine, and marijuana can decrease sperm production.
2. Alcohol Use: Drinking alcohol can lower testosterone levels and cause decreased sperm production.
3. Tobacco Smoking: Men who smoke might have a lower sperm count than those who don’t smoke.
4. Emotional Stress: Severe or prolonged emotional stress, including stress about fertility, might interfere with hormones needed to produce sperm.
